"Piku is a parable about how the poor and the parochial are often in conflict with each other. Never mind that Piku is also a delightful comedy, most of it played for laughs, with Deepika Padukone's pursuit of perfection juxtaposed against the trials and tribulations of her extended family. Deepika's character, Piku, is a city girl who has spent most of her life abroad. Home for a few days to settle a family dispute, she moves into her childhood home with her father Bhashkor (Amitabh Bachchan), stepmother Dolly (Dibakar Banerjee), stepsister Pishi (Laboni Sarkar) and the dying Bhashkor's beloved dog. Piku wants to make things right with her family, but Dolly and Pishi aren't interested in setting aside their personal enmities. Piku waits for the two of them to apologise, but what she doesn't realise is that it's her presence, not her absence, that has made them adversaries. The film derives much of its humour from the fact that Piku sees things in black and white, while Pishi and Dolly are shades of grey. Dolly is a snob with no redeeming features, while Pishi is shallow and self-serving. When Piku's arrival unsettles the daily routine (and cleans out the refrigerator), Dolly and Pishi blame her for everything that goes wrong."
